Geof has 40+ years of experience with medical device start-ups. He has worked on surgical robotics, joint implants, minimally invasive surgery, lab automation and blood transfusion management. Most recently he co-founded Claris Healthcare to develop a platform for the delivery of care into the homes of seniors – addressing social isolation prevention, remote patient monitoring and coaching for recovery from surgery. Geof is active in the Vancouver community through Creative Destruction Labs, the Medical Device Development Centre and the boards of several medical device companies.
Geoffrey Auchinleck – Co-founder and CEO, Claris Healthcare
Geof has more than 40 years of experience in the medical device field. He was part of the Vancouver-based team that built and tested the world’s first robot specifically designed to assist in surgery, then went on to develop a number of other medical technologies, including tools for laparoscopic surgery, limb positioning, blood sample handling equipment, apparatus for total knee arthroplasty and surgical drapes.
In 1997, Geof co-founded Neoteric Technology Ltd. Neoteric developed and commercialized technologies for ensuring the correct storage, tracking, handling and administration of blood for transfusion in hospitals.
After selling Neoteric to Haemonetics Corporation in 2009, Geof continued to work for Haemonetics until co-founding Claris Healthcare in 2012. Claris provides a reliable, accessible platform for delivering care into the homes of vulnerable populations including seniors and those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, particularly those experiencing social isolation.
Geof is very active in the Vancouver medical device community. He has served on the board of the Medical Device Development Centre for more than 30 years, 22 as Chair. He is also an independent Director of several medical device start-ups.
Geof holds 23 US patents for a wide range of medical devices and technologies.
In 2012, Geof was awarded the Encana Principal Award by the Manning Innovation Awards Foundation, Canada’s highest award for industrial innovation, in recognition of his development of the BloodTrack transfusion system.
Geof is an avid skier, hiker and Hobie-Cat sailor and enjoys mentoring entrepreneurs.
